See Reactions On Tiwa Savage’s “Double Standard” On Feminism

Twitter users are reacting to Tiwa Savage‘s statement on feminism and payment of women compared to their male counterpart in the industry. While it was reported that the singer doesn’t understand the motive behind feminism, she demands that female singers be paid same as male artistes and this is stirring conversations.

These reactions started with a user who posted on her timeline;

“Just listened to Tiwa Savage on Soundcity radio say she doesn’t get the motive behind feminism and she doesn’t think she identifies as one. She believes in the house even if you make whatever you make you are not equals with your partner.

This is not the first time Tiwa Savage will be defining her position where the feminist ideology is concerned and while the artiste had come under harsh attack from feminists the first time in October 2017, that hasn’t made her position on the cause waver. In the 2017 interview with BeatFM, Tiwa had said;

I also don’t think men and women are equal. I don’t think that’s how God created us, especially in the household anyway. So I think as females when we realize that yeah we can be strong as female in our career and stuff, but when we are home we have to realize that the man is the head of the house.”

This time, she has taken it up a notch by demanding for equality of payment, a move some Twitter users believe she shouldn’t have used considering her take on the ideology.

According to the Twitter user @GbemmyG, Tiwa Savage should not seek for equal pay for Nigerian female artistes since she doesn’t understand the motive behind feminism and she is not about that life because to @GbemmyG, fighting for equal pay is a feminist card to play.

This perspective was not accepted on Twitter street as other users believe that asking for equal pay for both sexes shouldn’t have anything to do with feminism rather it should be a case of fairness, especially if both artistes are delivering in the same capacity.

What do you guys think though? Are female artistes paid less than male artistes in the Nigerian music industry?
