Davido Gives 100% Passion On ‘Nwa Baby’ & It’s Ok

Davido’sNwa Baby‘ begins with the following intro

“Baby no feeding bottle
My baby dey wear the spaghetti
She said if you want it, you can get it
And I say, ah baby baby
Damn! Fresh on the beat”

Nwa Baby‘ was one of the most anticipated songs this year, thanks to the sleek publicity and hype from Davido’s PR team. The publicity crew did a very good job, unfortunately, almost to the detriment of the new joint. Every Tom, Dick and Harry sat aimlessly waiting for the golden moment the song would fall from the sky. We expected something out of this world, ofcourse Davido promised us ‘Nwa Baby’ would be an ‘African Classic’. You see we expect something out of the ordinary, our appetite was fixed, we built our standard pretty high.

Then Davido announces his parent record label SME has approved a date for the release of ‘Nwa Baby’. Apparently pirates thought SME were too slow so they decided to leak the tune two days before its official release. Diverse reactions have trailed the DMW boss’ new record.
First off, Davido ran into the embrace of the familiar ‘pon pon’ sound which he has excelled on in 2017. Maybe he is the king of the ‘pon pon’ sound after all here is what we make of his rekindled romance with the sound.
He begins ‘Nwa Baby’ as a victim of love, a man whose only crime was love. It’s glaring that he borrowed the ‘Locked up, they won’t let me out’ line from uncle Akon. From history Davido has always seamlessly applied lines from popular songs to make his own hit.
On ‘Nwa BabyDavido shows a bit of growth with his songwriting skills (maybe a song writer was hired anyway). However it shows the Atlanta born Nigerian singer is maturing as an artiste. Sadly a section of fans may not get to see or appreciate his improved lyrics. ‘Nwa Baby’ is a love song hence it spots sparks of similarity with ‘Assurance‘.
Nwa Baby’ may not strike a chord instantly within you but will definitely grow on you.
Shout out to Fresh VDM and SperoachBeatz for holding their own in the production of the pon pon sound.
