Feed Tha Streets III serves as Compton rapper Roddy Ricch’s third mixtape following his November 2018, Feed tha Streets II and is presented as the trilogy in the mixtape series. The mixtape chronologically follows his sophomore album, LIVE LIFE FAST released in December 2021.

Roddy first teased the mixtape via an Instagram Story with a tattoo saying “Feed Tha Streets” and the caption writing “3.”

Following the release of his sophomore studio album, LIVE LIFE FAST, Roddy took to Twitter, announcing that the mixtape would be released in 2022, captioning:

FTS 3 comin 2022 , u niggas playin wit my top 🙄

In May 2022, Atlantic Records‘ vice president of A&R, Keefa, posted an Instagram story which would hint at the album’s release while also previewing a blurry image of the tracklist.

Roddy begun his album rollout on September 8, 2022 with the release of “Ghetto Superstar” featuring Chicago’s G Herbo and Cleveland’s Doe Boy. This was soon followed by “Stop Breathing” which was released on September 30, 2022 and “Aston Martin Truck” which was released on October 21, 2022.

On October 22, 2022, Roddy had taken to Instagram to announce the release of the mixtape:

What did the artist say about the project?

With my next project, I’m going to be more vulnerable, I’m going to bring fans into my world more. I’m learning the balance. Like, OK, I’m not on Instagram, so I feel like I’ve got to bring them into my life more so they can feel me a little more… I ain’t worried about hits. I’ve been paying closer attention to detail recently. I feel like I’m a perfectionist. I just like things to be right. Going into my next album, I want to tap into something that’s timeless.
[…]
Coming off one of the biggest albums I could’ve done, I feel like taking them back to the basics with me. There’s all the old fans I had when I first started rapping, and these new fans that I got since the big album and Grammys and everything. So I want to bridge the gap between my old fans and my new fans. That’s what I’m on a mission to do with this next situation that I’m working on.
